I'm not sure I agree with the point about vocabulary broadening our minds...just because we are unable to vocalise subversive thoughts, I don't believe this actually stops us from thinking or feeling them.

Nice post, I like how you brought out a cogent argument. Basically I try to improve my vocab my reading stuff online and then I check up the meaning of words I don't know on thefreedictionary.com. By far, it has been my favourite. They have got an American, British and a baritone pronunciation of the word along with a thesaurus, so it's pretty useful if you are interested in expanding your vocabulary.

Great post. My experience tells me that the more words you know the bigger your world can be. I also believe that you can transcend one language's linguistic limitations by building your vocabulary in multiple languages. Lastly, by learning more words in more languages your mind works more effectively towards visualization, solutions, and intellectual capabilities...and actualization. Hey, it works for me!

Fier, Jake and Marcos: thanks for taking the time to comment.

Jake:
Great new words! I adopt a more "Kaizen way" of learning words, but it's good to get exposed to word lists to give a quick boost on the vocabulary sometimes...

Fier:
What a lovely way to learn a new language… Did you have any success with it? :)
I think learning words in foreign languages is a nice exercise. Each language makes it easy to express certain concepts or ideas, while making it hard to express others. Getting to know these differences can give you interesting insights about the values of other cultures and of your own.
