Julian: Thanks for sharing this great idea. Having a problem "in the back of your mind" is a great way to solve problems effortlessly — all you need is to make sure you're not consciously thinking about it. Sleeping is indeed a great way to make sure that that is the case.
By the way, great quotes you have in your website! Will be stealing some for my own collection... ;)

Creativity is like a muscle that you have to exercise. The more you do the better you get at it and the easier it becomes.

I especially recommend posing a problem to yourself just before you go to sleep - not to start thinking about it, but just to put the idea in your mind so that your mind can digest it overnight. My brother did this and had a dream which showed him a detailed solution to a complex problem he faced in an engineering project.

Great post.

CSS:
Experimenting is exactly what you should do to test your limits.
If you try the technique, please report back here sharing how it worked for you.

Fier:
a. I love the concept of mixing random concepts. I was very skeptical at the technique for a long time, but it really works.
b. I don't have any magic number I use as a quota. Depending on the problem, 10 ideas a day is challenging enough. For others, anything below 30 would be too easy.
c. Not as much I used to. But your question made me think about trying it again… Do you have any suggestions about any specific games or activities that are especially effective in triggering ideas?

Great Idea.
a. What do you think about Edward deBono's idea of choosing two (maybe more) random words and try to generate a concept from them?
b. What is your quota?
c. Do you play games/activities (like Tangram)to generate ideas?
