  • Just WOW! Impressive work you’ve done here, nice collection of wise words.

  • Thanks for visiting my site..if not I wouldn’t have discovered this too. Your quotes and posts will definitely go to my bookmark now:)

  • Thank you so much. You have a great collection of quotes that does more than entertain – it makes one think.

  • Great selection.

    Here is for you:
“The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits”
    Author Unknown

  • Cool list. Some made me smile a lot. I like the fact there are so many good quotes on a single page.

  • You have several duplicate quotes in the CSV file. By line numbers, they are:

    104 222
    33 259
    212 271
    20 128
328 287 – similarly worded but by the same person.
    150 166

  • Patrick: Thank you so much for pointing that out! I will update the quotes database in a few days and will take care of that.
Did you detect the duplicates using a tool or just by observation?

  • Great list, I also noted several duplicates (by observation). I would like to add one of my favorites:

“Fact’s do not cease to exist, because they are ignored”- Aldous Huxley

  • That is a very thought-provoking list.

I’d like to suggest my favorite quote that I didn’t see on your list.

“As you walk through the cow pasture of life, you’re bound to step into the truth once in awhile.”

  • my favourite quote from Tony Buzan is “learning how to learn is life’s most important skill”

I am read a new book ” Well said : perspectives from the Who’s who of Australian women / [Suzannah Pearce, group editor].” but most of the people you would not know.

what do you think is more important – what is said, or who has said it? what if someone said something really profound but is not well known (or only known in some countries) does it matter ?

    cheers from down under

    Jennifer

  • Thanks Roxanne, Terry and Jennifer for sharing your favorites — I appreciate it.

Jennifer: Regarding your question, in my opinion what is said is much more important than who said it. However, I admit that many times I don’t pay much attention to a quote until I read who said it — then, if it’s a person I respect much, I go back and read it again more carefully…

  • this should be a book of something…
i’d buy it, or at least i’d think about buying it!
    seriously~fabulous work here

  • hey,
    this is EXCELLENT. one word.

thank you, now i m going to forget the various pages i had bookmarked for good quotes. I am just gonna delete them, your collection will replace them, thanks again for keeping your hard work public!

  • Hey!
I love reading quotes. And this page was just what I was looking for. It was a pleasure reading your collection. Thanks. Have a nice day. :]

  • thank u so much 4 ur fquotes…Great list, i post it to my fblogs..

  • Best list I have ever seen, I was unexpectedly entertained for much longer than I should have allowed.

I give you one of my favorites:

The keys to success in life are honesty and fair dealing, once you can fake those you have it made – Groucho Marx

  • Thanks all for the kind words, glad you enjoyed the list. It’s really a pleasure to share my collection with you.

@Marty: Groucho Marx was a quote genius! I loved the quote you contributed — thank you so much for sharing!
Another one that I like, also from Groucho:
“Those are my principles. If you don’t like them I have others.” :)

  • Thank you for this collection. It was good to see some many ‘old faces’ and a goodly number of new ones. I think that most people, if so inclined, could cull from their own lives a goodly number of such observations. One that I use on my blog (and original with me) is “Everybody is entitled to make a mistake now and again. Try not to abuse the privilege.” I have to admit that I winced when I saw one very much like that above.

One of life’s little pleasures is to coin a word (underwhelmed) or a phrase (as above) and see it come back to you again as genuine coin of the realm. In that way, if no other, we each can know the sweet taste of immortality.

The difference between being famous and being anonymous lies in whether your quotes come back to you with attribution or not.

  • @Abir Nawabi: That’s an excellent one! I can even see it as a motto of sorts for this website. :)
However, doing some research in the Internet, I couldn’t find any references of the author…

Do you or any other reader know who’s the author?

  • Dear Luciano,

I think you know about septoes, invented by Edward de Bono. The site dedicated to septoes is …out! I have written a few septoes myself.

  • @Peter Gluck: I have never heard about septoes, but enjoy the idea very much! Thanks for sharing!

Althought not a ‘real septoe’, this is the first thing that came to my mind:
“Septoes are like haiku but less structured”

…and it’s also easier! (Although this fact didn’t fit in my pseudo-septoe-attempt above) ;)

  • Now I have an idea for an article: “how to find time to read all these quotes” :P . Huge collection, I will have to sacrifice few hours this Sunday to read them all.

  • Hey, great list!
    I absolutely love quotes.
There’s a certain chill I get when I read on that I particularly like. :)

my two favorite quotes from this collection are:
“Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.”
    Lao Tze

    &

“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”
    Dr. Seuss

I’ve ward both of these quotes before. :)

I compiled my own list of my favorites off of this list, as well as posted my faves of my faves on Twitter. :)

  • how bout this one:
Life is about trying to become the best person you can be.

    By me.

  • One reason for publishing Hitler quotes?

    • If I consider what he said interesting, why wouldn’t I publish it?

    • Because he was one of the greatest characters in the century, despite the fact that “Zionist” trying to use him to steal others land by their joke of the century “the Holocaust.”

Why don’t some people come to the fact that Hitler was a great leader?

      - Yes people died as the result of the war, people are dying form war America waged in Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Somalia….etc.

      - Hitler did what he thought was the right thing for the German people, and the German people supported him, unlike the American wars.

      - Hitler was as wrong as the American leaders who have waged wars on other countries, no more and he should not be bad mouthed.

Finally, I think the German forces may have killed over 20 million Russians. Why are six million Jewish people recognized for a holocaust – if it’s happened – and not 8.5 million Germans, or more than 20 million Russians?

  • Hello Luciano, This is a wonderfull collection! :D

I have some you might like:

“It is not titles that honour men, but men that honour titles.”

    -Niccolò Machiavelli

    And,

“Walk lightly in the spring; Mother Earth is pregnant.”

    – Kiowa proverb

  • good quotes.
“the bird of paradise alights only on the hand that does not grasp”
    john berry

“don’t talk unless you can improve the silence”
i believe this one was Jorge luis Borges
