You raise a very important point, Rana. I also believe it's much easier to get rid of a certain behavior if you focus on doing something (replacement), instead of solely focusing on not doing the original action.

Thanks for the reminder.

One cause that is missing in your analysis is that you are selfish, and have little regard for other people's time. Therefore, one of the Actions Steps should be to "Grow up and realize that you are not the center of the universe."

Thanks for the interesting post. Very good approach to get to the root of a problem. The crucial thing, however, is what you replace the habit with.

Thanks for this post. I will definitely try these 5 steps in getting out of some of the negative patterns in my life. I think it's crucial to understand why we do what we do in order to effectively change what we do. I like that your process seeks to find the cause of our patterns.

Enjoyed the post! I will share it with my family and friends since I know that most people can benefit from realizing our bad habits and then taking the necessary steps to change them. For me, I think it will be very helpful to create a task list like you suggested and keep it in a visible place.
You should consider setting up a http://bit.ly/4bybHr poll for your readers. I find them useful and fun for voting, as well!

Hi, great post celestine! :)

for me, patterns when left alone can developed into habits which are, by the way, harder to break when it becomes deeply instilled into a person. getting rid of bad patterns can help you avoid nasty habits later in life. the problem with these patterns is we tend to unconsciously fall into it while us, having no idea how we got into that situation in the first place. i believe your advice will be very helpful for individuals who go through the same thing. thank you very much. :)
