A way I find that works well is to use this idea generator (http://ideagenerator.creativitygames.net)
I’ll generate a few random words and images then move them around and see where it takes my mind. It often leads to some interesting and productive thoughts.

Oh, thanks for clarifying that! Now I see what you meant: creating ideas with a specific problem in mind, instead of just freely creating new ideas.

With or without pressure, my view still holds: the only way to generate great ideas is to generate lots of ideas. And you know what? The time limit might even be helpful for some people, as it puts some constraints in your thinking! But, yes, I understand it’s hard to relax and generate lots of ideas with a deadline lurking around, right?

Hi Luciano, thanks for your email. This is a great article also. I agree that when you create ideas for the sake of creating ideas, not for making decisions (like in the last article), there is a greater possibility for generating more creative ideas, because there is no time limit,no pressure to conciously create ideas, and no limitation on creating ideas related to a certain topic or problem.
I love it when I am not trying to create an idea or connection between two things, but my mind does it automatically without me having to think! I agree with your statement that you need to have more experiences, because the more experiences you give your mind, the ideas it can create are endless!

Reading books by creative and brilliant people brings me not only entertainment and education but also an exciting feeling of moving in new worlds. And once in them my own mind starts coming up with new perspectives, new insights and new ways of connecting known information.

Yes, my portable capture idea device was once a PDA, but once I started using a Molestine I never went back. The simplicity and freedom a blank paper allows is unbeatable.

Moleskine! lol. Yes they are expensive but they’re just oh sooo good. I take mine everwhere and whenever i have an idea i write it down. Sometimes i dont stop writing for hours and sometimes i dont write for days, the wonderful thing about it is that i can always go back to them…..i’m sure i can use all my ideas someday…some might be stupid now but they might be brillian later….

…. or who knows maybe it doesnt even matter… imaging the person wriing in HIS notebook…PET ROCK…

I think that you should NOT write recent ideas on the paper.
By doing that you are freeing your mind.

You better think on the idea as much as possible and get some results for yourself (some valuable points). If the idea is good it will stay in your mind for a long time and you will remember the core features of it forever.

Great article, I always get a lot of ideas but I really need to work on #4 wrighting them down and keeping them organized. I am going to keep a small notebook on me from now on.
